Standard adult BMI ranges are shown above, but they're less accurate under age 18. Growth-chart based BMI-for-age percentiles are a better fit — a pediatrician can help interpret those.
This is a general screening tool, not medical advice. BMI does not account for muscle mass, bone density, or overall body composition. Talk to a doctor or qualified health professional for guidance about your individual health.

BMI Calculator For Woman and Man
BMI calculator male or female search normally indicates the calculation of BMI based on the same relationship of height and weight. The basic BMI formula does not need to be adjusted for sex for adults.
We have added a gender selection to our calculator, so that the user can enter extra information, but the BMI is calculated according to the height and weight.
BMI categories may also vary in the different populations and situations, so BMI should be used as a screening tool and not as a definitive means of assessing a person's health.
- Calculator
BMI Calculator with Age
You can enter your age in our BMI calculator kg along with your height and weight before calculating your BMI.
BMI is typically determined by dividing weight by height for adults:
BMI = Weight (kg) ÷ Height (m)²
If someone has a height of about 1.63 m and a mass of 65 kg:
BMI = 65 ÷ (1.63 × 1.63) ≈ 24.5
The calculator converts units and calculates automatically.
Please note, adult BMI categories cannot be used for children and adolescents. BMI interpretation is typically performed using the age- and sex-specific growth references and not the standard adult categories for the children under 20 years of age.
- Result
Discovering your BMI Result
BMI is based upon weight and height. For adults, commonly used BMI categories are:
BMI Normal adult weight ranges
Below 18.5 Underweight
18.5–24.9 Healthy weight
25.0–29.9 Overweight
30.0 or higher Obesity
These are the categories typically used for screening for adults BMI, but BMI is a measure of total body weight, which includes body fat, muscle, bone, and other body weight.
Therefore a BMI result should be interpreted in the context of other factors that determine health.
- Formula
BMI Calculation Formula
The BMI calculator formula is:
BMI = Weight in kilograms ÷ Height in meters²
The height should be in feet and inches, but must be converted to meters.
For example:
5 ft 4 in = approximately 1.63 m
If your weight is 65 kg, then:
BMI = 65 ÷ (1.63²) ≈ 24.5
All these conversions are done automatically in our calculator, so you don't have to do the calculation manually.
- Categories
BMI Categories Explained
Underweight
A BMI of less than 18.5 is in the normal range for a BMI of an underweight adult. BMI is not enough to know the reasons for losing weight.
Healthy Weight
BMI of 18.5 to 24.9 is considered healthy for an adult. This range is indicative and not diagnostic.
Overweight
The BMI range between 25.0 and 29.9 is the normal adult overweight classification.
Obesity
BMI of 30 and above is in the range of normal adult obesity. BMI cannot be used to determine the proportion of fat to lean tissue in a person's weight.
- Range
BMI and Healthy Weight Range
The height can be used to estimate the weight range that falls within the "normal" BMI of adults between 18.5 and 24.9.
For instance, one of the screenshots shows a height of 5 ft 4 in, and for a 65 kg weight, the BMI is about 24.6. The calculator will also calculate the corresponding estimated weight range of this height.
This is a mathematical BMI range not a medical recommendation.

- Limitations
Limitations of BMI
BMI is a useful screening tool for the population as a whole and also for the individual, but has some limitations.
Does not measure body fat or indicate fat distribution. However, those with a high muscle mass may be classified as having a high BMI but actually have low body fat.
BMI should be interpreted differently for children and adolescents and may not be a valid measure of child health status or for some other groups.
BMI is used as a tool in making an individual health decision and should be used in conjunction with other information, and if applicable, a qualified health care professional's inputs.
